Education

  The School of Science consists of five departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science. It contains two affiliated facilities: the Marine Laboratory, and Laboratory for Surface Science . The Faculty offers a small-group teaching program, in which undergraduate students complete the requirements for a of Bachelor of Science degree on a four-year timetable.

In the first year, students of each department study liberal arts and fundamental sciences. The second and third years are devoted to specialized subjects that relate to scientific research. In the fourth year, students undertake their own research projects and complete their graduation theses.

The faculty also offers a Multidisciplinary Science Course, in which students can complement their studies by taking lectures in other departments, and the Frontier Scientist Special Course, which supports independent, self-paced study and research activity by individual students.
