Title: Quantum Physics Education Using Low-Cost Experiments Based on NV Quantum Sensors Date & Time: *Friday, June 13, 10:30–11:30
Venue: Main Science Building, Faculty of Science Bldg. Lec. Room 30 (3F)

Abstract
In 2025, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of quantum physics. The impact of quantum physics on society has been immense and continues to grow. Consequently, interest in quantum physics education is increasing at all levels, from high school to graduate studies. In our talk, we begin with a brief overview of various initiatives in Germany related to quantum physics education (see: https://www.qubit-edu.de/en/).
We argue that hands-on experiments are particularly important for effectively teaching and learning quantum physics. To this end, we propose low-cost experimental setups based on 3D-printing technology as a promising path for disseminating relevant educational tools. These setups can accommodate not only optical experiments, such as the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, but also more advanced systems—up to one-qubit quantum computers based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers. In our talk, we present our low-cost approach to NV-based quantum sensors, optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR), and coherent quantum control. Finally, we outline our vision for an integrated approach to teaching quantum science—combining hardware and software, theory, simulation, and hands-on experimentation.
