【Title】 OU delegation visits the University Grenoble Alps
【Outline】 On October 13th and 14th, Okayama University (OU) delegation led by Prof. Yamamoto, Vice President of OU, visited the University Grenoble Alps, European Synchrotron Research Facility (ESRF), and Cite Scolaire Internationale (CSI) in Grenoble, France. Profs. Harada and Christopher, the members of GSCO, joined the OU delegation and discussed with responsible persons in Grenoble the education of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to young students in an international context. “Globalization” is an important subject in Japan for the education at high school as well as at university and, by such an education, we will have students who are able to work in a borderless world in future. Our program GSCO also aims to educate high school students in such a way.
In the meeting with CSI, a new effective method called “Virtual Class”, being now developed by our members, have been discussed. Although GSCO is a program for high school students, it is one of the key issues of our discussion even for OU. The “Virtual Class” will be culminated in March 2017, when GSCO students visit Grenoble and we expect it produces a fruitful result.
